Register of Deeds Office Receives Approval as Passport Acceptance Facility — First Register of Deeds Office in Tennessee to Earn Designation

The Nashville Davidson County Register of Deeds Office received approval from the U.S. Department of State to serve as a passport acceptance facility, becoming the first Register of Deeds office in Tennessee to receive this designation.

The addition of passport services expands access to an important federal service and provides Nashville and Davidson County residents with another convenient location to apply for a passport.

“The Office of the Register of Deeds is pleased to expand access to essential services while continuing our core mission,” said Register of Deeds Karen Johnson. “With a limited number of passport acceptance locations available, this designation allows us to increase access and provide greater convenience for residents.”

Staff members completed the required U.S. Department of State training, and the office began offering passport acceptance services on February 23, 2026. The office also offers passport photo services on-site, providing applicants with the convenience of completing both their application and photo requirements in one location.

Appointments are required and can be scheduled through the Register of Deeds website. Information regarding hours of service, available appointment dates and times, fees, required documentation, and other details is also available online.

The addition of passport services is part of the Register of Deeds Office’s continuing effort to increase access to services and make government more convenient and accessible for the people it serves.
